Update: The Baseball Spring Training Camp has closed due to the weather and high winds. We will meet this Wednesday, January 29, 2014 at LeRoy Dryer Field beginning at 4:45pm. The Softball Spring Training Camp has been canceled due to a lack of participation.

 

Note: this event was pushed back one week and now starts January 27, 2014.

Join the City of Brenham Recreation Department and the Blinn College Buccaneer baseball and softball teams for a three week Spring Training Camp beginning January 27, 2013. During this time, participants will interact with collegiate athletes and learn the fundamentals of "America's greatest past time" hitting, throwing, catching, fielding, and pitching. Price includes a
t-shirt. This program is for children ages 5-12.

The Recreation Department is the proud sponsor of the Little Diggers volleyball program. Brenham High School volleyball athletes teach basic fundamentals including passing, setting, and serving. Price includes t-shirt. This program is for girls 3rd - 6th grade.

The City of Brenham Recreation Department and Brenham High School Softball program invite you to participate in its inaugural "Junior Gloves" Softball Program. Participants will learn basic fundamentals including: catching, throwing, fielding and hitting. This program is for girls Kindergarten through 8th grade.

Adult Programs

Adult Slow Pitch Softball League click to expand

Adult Slow Pitch Softball League

This program provides adults with an organized softball league. Games are held at Hohlt and Henderson parks. There are three seasons: Spring, Summer, and Fall. Each offer a Co-Ed League that consists of a 10 game guarantee and a single elimination tournament at the end of the season. T-Shirts are provided to league and tournament champions. Games are played on Monday nights. Must be 16 years or older.

45 minutes

Tuesdays, Thursdays, & Friday 9:00am - 10:00am

 

Cost: $4.00/visit or 5 punch passes sold for $20.00

Pool Pass is required

 

Classes offer a wide range of aerobic exercise. Class will be held in the Competition Pool. Benefits for the Comp Pool: deeper water, cooler water allows body to burn more calories, variety of exercises can be incorporated in the class. These classes are instructed by Jane Moorhead.

Come 1, 2, or 3 days a week to best fit your schedule and fitness goals.

Classes offer a wide range of moderate movements to improve range of motion, balance, and coordination while strengthening and toning the body. These classes are instructed by Jane Moorhead.

Citzens Police Academy (CPA)

The CPA is one of the programs the Brenham Police Department utilizes to build a partnership between the department and the community. Officers covering topics such as criminal investigations, S.W.A.T. & hostage negotiation, building searches, traffic stops, and narcotics & gang enforcement. Movie in the Park

The Recreation Department will once again host "Movies in the Park". "Movie in the Park" is entering its fifth season and getting bigger each year. This event brings families and children of all ages together for a fun, appropriate, and safe evening of entertainment. Bring your blankets and lawn chairs and join us at Hohlt Park. Concessions will be available for purchase. This summer, "Movie in the Park" will be coming to your local pool. Join us at the Blue Bell Aquatic Center for "Floats-n-Flicks". Movies at the pool are marked with an (*).

Join us at the Nancy Carol Roberts Memorial Library for the 2014 Summer Reading Program. Starting on June 3rd through July 15th we will have special guests and activities every Tuesday. Children up to age 12 will have the opportunity to win some great reading prizes! Adults and teens can participate in the Adult Summer Reading programming and win some prizes of their own. Wilderness Survival Camp click to expand

Wilderness Survival Camp

Here is a week long camp for those who are just getting into outdoor survival. Our days will be filled with hands-on activities to better equip our students for living in the woods, whether for short or long term. Skills covered will include basic shelter construction (debris hut and lean-to), locating and purifying water, making proper fire structures, hunting and trapping methods, edible and medicinal wild plants, rope making, and much more! A small daily snack will be provided and all materials are included. This program is for children ages 5-12.

Camp Cascade click to expand

Camp Cascade

Camp CASCADE is a NEW camp designed to teach our youth some of the basics of survival skills, swimming skills, rescue skills, CPR & First Aid, as well as lifeguard skills. We will touch on swim strokes, diving, rescues, lifesaving skills and some basic boating/canoing skills. This is a half day one week camp designed for FUN and learning. Come CASCADE with us. This program is for children ages 7-13.

Kid Fish click to expand

Kid Fish

Kid Fish has grown to be one of our most popular events of the year. Hundreds of pounds of catfish are dumped into the outdoor leisure pool and anglers of all ages can attempt to hook the big one. Bring your own pole or use the ones on site. Trophies are awarded to the top catchers. Kid Fish is brought to you each year from our generous sponsors: Brenham Elks Lodge 979, Blue Bell Creameries and a host of additional sponsors each year. This program is for children ages 2-16.

Christmas Stroll & Lighted Parade click to expand

Christmas Stroll & Lighted Parade

This family fun event kicks off with the lighting of the Courthouse Square Christmas trees and is followed by the
Downtown Parade of Lights. This light-filled, old-fashioned parade winds through the streets of downtown and finishes with a special appearance from Santa Clause arriving on a fire truck. Downtown businesses will be open before and after the parade so you can fill up on food and unique gifts.
